Rhiannon Drummond

Foundation Dentist (GDC No. 317969)

I clearly remember visiting my local dental practice as a child. My dentist always made the effort to be gentle and patient, making everything as comfortable as possible for me. These positive first experiences combined with my passion for healthcare are what guided me to becoming a dentist myself. I have a keen interest in helping anxious patients feel more at ease and providing advice on oral health.

I grew up on the Scottish coast in Ayrshire before moving to Edinburgh during my teenage years. Having spent most of my childhood by the sea, Whitley Bay is definitely a reminder of home! After finishing school, I hopped across the water to Belfast where I spent 5 amazing years at Queen’s University, obtaining my dental degree.

Outside of dentistry I love to travel. Hearing about patients’ recent adventures gives me great ideas on where to explore next!

BEHIND THE SMILE

We asked Rhiannon some questions to find out more about the woman behind the smile. Away from her professional life, what are the things she holds dear?

If you were able to invite three people (fictional or non fictional), (present or past) to your dinner table who would they be and why?

Dolly Parton – I love how she has always done things her own way. She would have some crazy stories to tell and hopefully would put on a little performance for us.

Billy Connolly – His story telling and observational humour would keep us all entertained.

Dalai Lama – He seems like he has it all sorted out. I’d hope for a few wise words to get us all thinking.

If you weren’t a dentist, what would you want to do as a career?

Growing up I loved watching Grand Designs on the TV, so, if I wasn’t a dentist I could see myself building or renovating houses.

If you were to share one piece of dental advice, what would it be?

If you are going to have a sugary drink, have it with a main meal and through a straw to reduce the nasty effects on your teeth.
