Katie Herron

Foundation Dentist (GDC no 328869)

I’ve always had a strong interest in science, paired with a genuine passion for caring for, and helping others. I also love being creative and enjoy crafts in my spare time, so dentistry felt like the perfect way to bring all those interests together. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how dental care can truly transform a person’s confidence and quality of life. Therefore, I’m committed to providing patient-centred care that improves oral health, and boosts confidence and overall well being. I’m especially interested in paediatric and special care dentistry, and I plan to continue developing my skills in these areas through further training.

I was born and raised in Northumberland, and after studying Dentistry at the University of Leeds, I knew I wanted to return to the Northeast. I’m definitely biased, but there’s nowhere quite like it! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, swimming, and anything to do with food.

Education

  • Master and Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Science in Oral Science with Distinction – 2025.

BEHIND THE SMILE

We asked Katie some questions to find out more about the woman behind the smile. Away from her professional life, what are the things she holds dear?

If you were able to invite three people (fictional or non fictional), (present or past) to your dinner table who would they be and why?

David Attenborough- I’d love to hear his stories and views on nature and the planet.

Rihanna- hopefully she could perform.

Jaqueline Wilson- I loved reading her books growing up.

If you weren’t a dentist, what would you want to do as a career?

I think I would still like to do something science related- either medicine or optometry.

If you were to share one piece of dental advice, what would it be?

Regular dental appointments are essential- not only to prevent problems, but also to screen for oral cancer.

What is your favourite charity?

Doctors Without Borders- an international humanitarian organisation that provides emergency medical care to people affected by crises, conflicts, and disasters worldwide.
